Installments, warranty, and returns: the fine print when buying electronics in Bahrain

Updated 6 September 2026 · 6 min read

The sticker price is only part of the cost of a phone, laptop, or TV in Bahrain. How you pay, who covers the warranty, and whether you can return it all change what a purchase really costs — and retailers differ on every one of them.

Ways to spread the cost

The telcos — Batelco, stc, and Zain — sell flagship phones on 12- to 24-month contracts. The monthly figure looks small, but add up the full term and compare it with the retailer's cash price: sometimes the bundle is a genuine saving because it includes data, sometimes it costs more than buying outright.

Buy-now-pay-later services (Flooss, Tabby, and Tamara appear at many Bahrain checkouts) split the price into interest-free instalments. They are convenient, but check the retailer's price is the same as it would be for a cash buyer — occasionally the BNPL-eligible listing sits at a higher price.

Some retailers offer bank-card instalment plans at 0% for cardholders of specific banks. These are usually the cheapest way to spread a large purchase, provided you already hold the card.

Warranty: who covers what

Bahrain retailers typically pass on the manufacturer's regional warranty — one year for most electronics, sometimes two for TVs and appliances. International-version imports may instead carry a retailer warranty, which is honoured at the shop rather than the brand's service centre. Read the listing: the difference is stated, but not always prominently.

Extended warranty add-ons are profitable for retailers and rarely worth it on phones; they can make sense on large appliances where a single repair costs a meaningful fraction of the price.

Returns and open-box

Return policies in Bahrain vary widely — from a few days for unopened items to no returns on opened electronics. Before buying anything you might send back, confirm the policy on the retailer's page. Farq links to the retailer's own listing so you can check the terms alongside the price.
